About Us
Who?
Welcome to Fingermonkey.net. The site is run by AndrewE (aka 'Monkey King') a long-time blogger and web entrepreneur from London, UK. You can find my personal blog here at Twigged.net.
I began blogging over 7 years ago when blogspot had just hit the scene and the first wave of pro bloggers had begun to emerge. Since then I've been involved in numerous web projects and have created site designs, developed blogs and created a couple of successful forums. I'm now turning my focus to something I've always had a secret fancy for: flash games.
What?
Fingermonkey.net is a free flash arcade with a difference: I simply wanted to build an arcade with free games of the type that I would actually play myself. With the exception of a few old-time greats, the vast majority of free flash arcades on the web today are really just clones of sites that get sold and bought for $100.
I was frankly tired and bored of this cloning practice, so rather than bitch about it any longer, I decided to try build my own arcade site from the bottom up. Yes, it's using a proprietary script (Arcadem) to power the backend but then I'm not a coder/developer.
But each game on this site has been tried and tested by me, and only the best of the best make it in to my arcade. This means that the site started with very few games. I add a minimum of one new game per day, so over time you'll see the site grow and hopefully reach maturity in a year from now.
Why?
Perhaps you're wondering about the choice of names. Why Finger Monkey? Well first of all, it was simply a matter of finding a domain name that hasn't yet been taken. But more than that, it was a name that came to me after reading a great book called Monkey Portraits by Jill Greenberg. It's a fascinating collection of expressive portraits by our natural cousins.
So that made up the 'monkey' side of things. The 'finger' part is simply to do with using a controller. Since the launch of the Nintendo games console in the 1980's, gamers the world over have been playing their favourite games using their fingers. So there it is Finger Monkey!
Frequency of content
At FingerMonkey you'll find a minimum of 1 new game per day and a minimum of 1 new showcase/review per week. If you have any suggestions for games you'd like to see here, or if you'd like me to review one of your games then please get in touch via the contact form.
